Five days allows Zanzibar's different landscapes — urban, forest, coastal, and rural agricultural — to reveal themselves at a pace where nothing feels rushed. The standard 4-day combination of Stone Town, Prison Island, Nakupenda Sandbank, and a Spice Farm is solid. What the fifth day adds is Jozani Forest.
Jozani is the only indigenous forest remaining on Zanzibar, and it's the only place on earth where you can see the red colobus monkey in the wild. The Zanzibar red colobus is a subspecies found nowhere else — not in mainland Africa, not in any zoo. The forest walk takes you through mangrove boardwalks, stands of old fig trees, and groves where colobus families move through the canopy above your head at close range. It's a genuinely different ecosystem from anything else on the island, and the contrast with Stone Town's density or Nakupenda's open water makes the five-day itinerary feel properly varied rather than repetitive.
We sequence the days based on tidal schedules (Nakupenda is tidal), weather, and your accommodation location to minimise unnecessary travel time.
By the end of this trip, you will have visited some of the most popular attractions in Zanzibar, relaxed on its beautiful beaches, and savored a variety of cultural and natural highlights, making it an memorable journey.
Upon arrival in Zanzibar, you’ll be picked up from the airport and transferred to your hotel in Stone Town. After a short rest, embark on a guided tour of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore historical landmarks such as the Sultan’s Palace, House of Wonders, and the Old Fort. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
After breakfast, take a short boat ride to Prison Island, home to the famous Aldabra giant tortoises. Learn about the island’s fascinating history and enjoy feeding and taking photos with these ancient creatures. Spend the rest of the day relaxing on the beach and exploring the beautiful surroundings.
Head to Nakupenda Sandbank after breakfast for a day of sun, sea, and relaxation. Swim in the turquoise waters, snorkel among vibrant coral reefs, and enjoy a freshly prepared seafood BBQ on the beach. This day offers a perfect combination of adventure and relaxation.
Discover the natural beauty of Jozani Forest, the last remaining habitat of the Red Colobus monkeys. Take a walk through the lush forest, learning about the local flora and fauna. In the afternoon, visit a spice farm to learn about Zanzibar’s famous spice production, sampling exotic spices and fruits.
Spend your final day relaxing at Nungwi Beach, known for its pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters. Enjoy optional water activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, or sailing. Later, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure, concluding your 5-day Zanzibar adventure.
