What Is a 4-Day Tanzania Safari?

A 4-day Tanzania safari is a private trip of four days and three nights that usually covers three or four northern parks, often including the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. It is the shortest length we recommend if the Serengeti is a priority, because it allows a night in the park without rushing. Our 4-day safaris cost from $1,860 to $3,700 per person for two people sharing at mid-range level.

Compared with three days, the extra day gives you a full northern circuit: Tarangire's elephants, a night in the Serengeti and a crater game drive, or four parks close to Arusha with no long drives. We also offer a fly-in safari to the northern Serengeti for the Great Migration river crossings.

Who Is a 4-Day Safari Best For?

First-time visitors who want the Serengeti, travellers adding a safari to Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar, and anyone who wants a full circuit in a short trip.

What Wildlife Can You See?

Big cats and large herds in the Serengeti, elephants in Tarangire, birdlife at Lake Manyara and the best chance of black rhinos in Ngorongoro Crater. No sighting can be guaranteed.

When Is the Best Time?

Year-round for most routes. June–October is usually easiest for game viewing, and July–October is the season for the Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti.

Which Parks Can You Visit?

The Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Arusha National Park, in combinations of two to four parks.

Is Four Days Enough?

Yes, for the Serengeti with Ngorongoro and one more park, or for four parks near Arusha. With five days or more you spend longer in the Serengeti.

How Does a 4-Day Safari Work?

Pickup in Arusha or at the airport → game drives in three or four parks → three nights at lodges or camps → return to Arusha on the evening of Day 4.

What Affects the Price?

  • Group size: the vehicle, guide and any Ngorongoro crater fee are shared, so the per-person price falls noticeably as your group grows.
  • Accommodation level: budget camping, mid-range lodges or luxury lodges and camps.
  • Parks: Ngorongoro Crater adds a per-vehicle crater fee, and nights inside national parks add concession fees.
  • Fee changes: park and conservation fees are set by the authorities and can change, so we confirm your price in writing before you pay.

Before You Go

How Should You Prepare for a 4-Day Safari?

Pack layers for cold mornings and warm afternoons, bring sun protection and your passport, and plan to arrive in Arusha the day before.

What to Bring

  • Neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, beige); avoid dark blue and black where tsetse flies occur
  • A warm fleece or jacket for early mornings, essential on the Ngorongoro rim
  • Sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Camera with a zoom lens and binoculars
  • Passport, as details are recorded at park gates
  • Motion-sickness tablets if you need them
  • Small notes for tips and any personal medication

Yes. Our fly-in migration safari visits the northern Serengeti from July to October, when the herds usually cross the Mara River. Crossings can never be guaranteed. At other times of year, the herds are elsewhere in the Serengeti.

Routes that include Ngorongoro Crater give the best chance, because all of the Big Five live there, including black rhinos. Leopards and rhinos are not always seen, and no operator can guarantee sightings.

Yes. Every safari uses a private 4x4 vehicle and driver-guide for your group only, with up to six people per vehicle.

Most start and end at your hotel in Arusha. Two include airport pickup, and the migration safari flies from Arusha airport.
