A 2-day Tanzania safari is a private trip from Arusha with one night near the parks, usually covering one or two parks in the northern circuit. The most practical routes combine Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater or Arusha National Park, which are all within a few hours of Arusha. Our 2-day safaris start from $591 per person.

Compared with a day trip, the overnight gives you an afternoon game drive on Day 1 and an early-morning drive on Day 2, when many animals, including predators, are most active. What Wildlife Can You See in Two Days?

It depends on the parks: elephant herds and baobabs in Tarangire, birdlife and occasional tree-climbing lions in Lake Manyara, and dense wildlife, including rare black rhinos, in Ngorongoro Crater. All of the Big Five live in the northern parks, but no sighting can be guaranteed.

When Is the Best Time for a 2-Day Safari?

A 2-day safari works year-round. June–October usually gives the easiest viewing as animals gather near water, and January–February is also generally good. In the green season the parks are lush and quieter, but tracks can be muddy and wildlife more spread out.

Which Parks Can You Visit in Two Days?

Tarangire (about 120 km from Arusha), Lake Manyara (about 130 km) and Ngorongoro (about 185 km) are within a few hours' drive. The Serengeti (about 335 km) is much farther and takes most of a day to reach by road.

Is a 2-Day Safari Better Than a 1-Day Trip?

For most travellers, yes. The overnight gives you an early-morning game drive and spreads the driving over two days. A 1-day trip still suits people with only one free day.

What Does a Typical 2-Day Safari Look Like?

Most 2-day safaris follow the same pattern: a morning drive from Arusha, game viewing on the afternoon of Day 1, one night at a lodge or camp, an early start on Day 2 and a return to Arusha by the evening.

A route that includes Ngorongoro Crater gives the best chance, because all of the Big Five live in the crater, including a small population of black rhinos. Even so, leopards and rhinos are not always seen, and no operator can guarantee sightings.

It is possible, but the Serengeti is far from Arusha, so a 2-day Serengeti trip involves a lot of travel time. Ask us how the 2-day Serengeti itineraries are routed before you book. If the Serengeti is your priority, three or more days give a far better experience.

Yes. A 2-day safari fits well before a flight to Zanzibar or after a Kilimanjaro climb. We plan the order so flights and transfers connect, and we recommend at least one rest day after the climb.

Safaris run year-round, but June to October (the main dry season) usually offers the easiest game viewing because animals gather near water and vegetation is thinner. January and February are also generally good. The green season, roughly November to May, brings lush scenery, fewer vehicles and lower rates at some lodges, although April and May are usually the wettest months.
